Reception

Reception

In Reception, children learn through both teacher-led activities and child-initiated play. All the learning activities and experiences in Reception are carefully planned to support your child with achieving the statements in the Early Year Foundation Stage framework. The 7 educational programmes from the EYFS statutory framework curriculum are:

Prime Areas:

• Communication and language

• Physical Development

• Personal, Social and Emotional development

Specific Areas:

• Literacy

• Mathematics

• Understanding the world

• Expressive Arts and Design

In Reception, we teach daily phonics sessions following the Little Wandle scheme. In addition to this, the children participate in Literacy activities and Maths activities following the White Rose scheme of learning. We aim to create a language rich environment by introducing new vocabulary through both direct teaching and child-initiated play. A love of reading is instilled early in the children’s school journey by placing quality children’s books at the heart of our curriculum.

Outdoor learning is a key aspect of our teaching in Reception. Children will have the opportunity to explore the outdoor area regularly throughout the day. Please ensure children always bring a waterproof coat to school and, depending on the time of year, items such as gloves, hats, scarves or sun hats.
