Curriculum

INTENT

Through our school vision, the curriculum in our inclusive Church of England primary school encourages everyone to discover, flourish and grow in their talents, nurturing their God given gifts and potential.  It has been designed to foster a love of learning, community and personal resilience.

It is bespoke to the needs of the pupils at Prior’s Mill CE Primary School, not only by focussing on appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum, but by modelling the virtues given to us by Christ where kindness, honesty, respect and forgiveness underpin our words, actions and learning every day.

We are a large school with a constantly evolving curriculum which responds to the needs of learners and their interests by enhancing learning experiences and raising awareness from the local area to national and global arenas. We aim to develop outward looking pupils who are able to engage in learning about themselves and have an understanding of the wider world and its complex cultures.

IMPLEMENTATION

To reflect the need for mixed aged classes across some year groups, the curriculum is taught in two cycles A and B. Through quality teaching of knowledge, skills and vocabulary across core and foundation subjects, all children are challenged to be inquisitive, compassionate, courageous and creative learners. They have opportunities to influence their own learning through age appropriate and progressive themes. Effective learning characteristics including being ambitious, reflective and imaginative drive teaching and learning.

IMPACT

Our children will develop a confident set of skills, knowledge and Christian values to transition into further education and life. In short, they will learn more, remember more, enjoy more and develop more spiritually, socially and emotionally, enabling them to be ready for their next stage in education.
