Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) at Prior’s Mill CofE Primary School

At Prior’s Mill, we are committed to providing high-quality Relationships, Sex and Health Education that supports our pupils’ wellbeing, safety and development. High quality, evidence-based teaching of relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) can help prepare pupils for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life, and can promote their moral, social, mental and physical development.  We view RSHE as a proactive curriculum that plays a vital role in safeguarding our pupils, helping them to understand and identify when things are not right, and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves and others safe.

From September 2026, we will be implementing the new statutory RSHE guidance. As we prepare for these changes, we are committed to working closely with our school community to ensure our curriculum meets the needs of all our pupils. We will be surveying parents, pupils and staff to help us develop our policy and curriculum in a way that reflects our school values and the needs of our community. These steps might include inviting parents into school to discuss the curriculum content and the importance of RSHE for wellbeing and safety, inviting them to discuss any concerns, and supporting parents in managing conversations with their children about RSHE topics. We want to ensure our approach is transparent, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our children.

Our RSHE curriculum will complement and enhance the important work we already do at Prior’s Mill on British Values, Protected Characteristics, Beyond Gender Stereotypes and the Prior’s Promise. All schools are expected to provide opportunities for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of their pupils. As part of this, you should promote “fundamental British values”. The DfE defines these values as: Democracy, The rule of law, Individual liberty, Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Together, these elements create a holistic approach to developing respectful, kind and resilient young people who understand the importance of equality, respect and healthy relationships in all aspects of their lives.

Mrs Williams is our Subject lead and is happy to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.
